Since the event's humble beginnings in 1978, the Festival has grown to be a community favorite that hosts nearly 40,000 guests from all over the nation with over a dozen events, hundreds of restaurants, dozens of chefs and countless fine wine and spirit selections.
The Scottsdale Culinary Festival was started by Scottsdale League for the Arts, a non-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to supporting local arts programs, as a way to raise funds for capital improvements needed at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts facility. This was the organization's primary goal for 15 years. However, in 1992 the League created a grant program in order to further support the arts.
Since the grant program was implemented, Scottsdale League for the Arts has donated more than $3.5 million to numerous non-profit art and art education programs throughout the Valley of the Sun. This includes scholarships for students in culinary institutes and high school art students, grants to non-profit arts related organizations, and donations to the Arts in Education Council and the Scottsdale Cultural Council.
